Luggage – Don’t Lose It On Holiday And Vacation Air Flights
March 9, 2010 by Dorothy Yamich

Whether you have flown on flights for business, or holidays and vacations, you may have lost luggage or know of people that have. Here are some travel tips that can help you reduce this risk.
It’s estimated that there are more than a million bags that are lost by the airlines each year in the U.S. alone. How many get lost in the whole world is anyone’s guess. Here are a few tips that may help you recover your bags if they should they get lost.
You should attach two or three tags with your name, home address, and phone number to the handle and zipper-pulls of each bag that you are checking. There is less of a chance that all of your tags will get torn off in transit. Make sure that you have removed any old airline tracking tags that are still attached to your luggage as they could confuse the baggage handlers.
Also, you should place the same contact information, including a copy of your itinerary and destination address inside each your bags. Then, if they do go astray and are found in time, it’s possible that they could be forwarded to your hotel.
Pick luggage with preferably a bright or odd color that will stand out among all black and brown bags. Know which brand name of the luggage that you are using and attach a small colorful scarf or ribbon to the handle to make identification easier. Stick decals or a contrasting colored tape to each side of the bags so they are easier to find as it goes around the carousel. Remember these details, or better still, take a digital photo of your luggage just before you go and bring it with you. This will help the lost luggage staff at the airport locate your bags if they get lost in transit and turn up at their office. It will also help if you do have to make a claim.
It helps to make a list of what you have in your luggage and carry that list in you carry-on bag. The chance of your luggage getting lost in transit increases dramatically when you have connecting, or delayed flights. Always pack all of your valuables, including your laptop or Blackberry, travel documents, prescriptions, etc., in your carry-on bag. It makes sense to pack only the things you can afford to lose in your checked baggage. Most analysts believe that the airline industry’s problem of lost luggage is not going to be resolved anytime soon.
What should you do your luggage gets lost?
Go right away to the baggage claim office and file a claim. Many airlines have a twenty-four hour window of time that starts from when your flight arrives to file and be eligible for compensation. You will get a claim receipt to check the tracking of your luggage with your airline by phone, or on the airline’s website. Make sure you keep your flight documents until the lost luggage mix up has been resolved.
How can you guarantee that the airlines will not lose your luggage?
There are a number of companies that will send your luggage in the U.S., such as UPS, FedEx, or DHL, directly to your hotel or destination address for a reasonable cost. If you are staying in a hotel, your luggage will be brought to your room. When you consider that in the U.S. alone, well over a million bags are lost by the airlines every year, this service may be well worth considering. If you are traveling by air through Europe, FirstLuggage.com, has a similar service.

Making Cheap Hotel Rates Unforgettable

In popular tourists countries like Australia, many hotels and inns have risen up due to the requirements of tourists nowadays. Tourists prefer to plan their own free and easy holidays and book the tours on their own. Thus, tour agencies are unable to attract customers as they only offer tour packages.
Due to the correction, people have to look for more cheap hotel rates as the cheap hotel market has now become unstable. Budget hotels used to bank on their name and position and remained cheap, but now, they have increased their costs to vie with other better hotels. The fact is the economy is in a correction and when this happens there is a shift in demand. The demand shift causes prices to fall for a short period of time, at least in the grand scheme of things. It also causes hotels to give more promotions besides their lower rates to draw in the traffic. That is why now is such a great time to travel.
The bosses of the backpacker\’s inns realize that once they put up their rooms for reservation, they will be grabbed up immediately. Thus, they put aside some rooms for budget holiday-makers. Since the rooms are small, they can be rented out at a cheap price and thus attract budget holiday-makers.
People recently prefer hotels which offer special themes. This preference results in an increase in the number of boutique hotels which are cheap and self-sufficient. These special hotels are able to compete with the other budget hotels.
Hotels provide the facilities to satisfy their customer\’s basic needs like a hot shower or clean bedsheets to retain their customers and to make them comfortable and happy.
The guesthouses and bed and breakfast hotels have unexpectedly improved in terms of reputation recently. They have provided facilities to address the basic needs of travelers and thus give the travelers a homely and contented feel. The reason for their success is also the increase demand for such hotels by travelers.
Is saving 40% a condition of Cheap Hotel Rates? I think so, if you agree visit Chris\’ site and book today for your next trip.

Cheap Travel Insurance
Finding low cost travel insurance is now considered to be a good idea as the value of insurance today is not reflected in the cost but the level of service provided regardless of whether or not a claim has been made. There are insurance providers by the dozen in most places nowadays and you can get a policy drawn up at a travel agent or even at the grocery store but be warned that your best option is getting yourself covered by an independent business that deals only in travel insurance.
Buying your cheap travel insurance directly online means that the savings will be passed on to you, cutting your cost but not the cover. Just because cheap travel insurance is low cost does not translate into its quality being substandard.
A policy should always include the basics: 24 Hr Worldwide Medical Emergency Service;– day ‘no questions asked’ money refund guarantee; A ‘No Excess Waiver’ enabling you to waiver the excess cost when you purchase your policy; 25% Rule – being able to travel out of your designated cover ‘area’ for 25% of your policy; 80+ adventure sports covered automatically (inc bungee jumping, surfing, parasailing and white water rafting); Your Insurance must be a ‘Living Document which means you can make changes to certain aspects of your policy as you travel.
Travel insurance is not just a luxury for those with a bit of extra money and a suitcase full of valuable belongings. Anybody can come into medical trouble while away on holiday and many countries don’t have the infrastructure to afford everyone the best care in an emergency. Your insurance is vital in situations like these and will get get the right attention to you (or you to the right attention).
For budget travellers, cheap travel insurance is very important because often, security or health issues can arise when residing in cheap accommodation or using transport and amenities ‘on a shoe string’. Even eating out on a budget can cause a traveller to rely on their insurance for a quick prescription to stop a bad case of ‘delhi belly’.
Cheap travel insurance needs to always be very flexible and once insured, you should be able to edit your travel insurance policy over the internet. If you decide to stay on holiday longer, or if you want to add valuable belongings to your policy, such as a new watch, along the way then this can only be a benefit.
If you’re about to purchase your cheap travel insurance online, have a look at our great value and trustworthy travel insurance policies.

Advent Activities To Celebrate the Holiday Season
November 28, 2009 by Kerry Beck
The first 24 days of December is the time period known as Advent. This time period leads up to Christmas, the day we celebrate the birth of Christ. Advent from a language prospective actually owes its roots to a Latin word, “adventus.” This word means “coming” and it denotes that the holiday precedes the day that Christ comes.
One way that Advent is prepared for is by use of a device known as an Advent calendar. A simple device, in many cases actually created by children, this device allows the celebrants to track how far they are along in the Advent holiday period.
Advent candles are the most popular way that is used to track the days in the calendar. Since Advent has 24 days, the calendar has 24 candles. The family celebrating the holiday gathers together and lights one of the candles each day of the advent season.
Advent calendars come in all shapes and sizes. They also come in a wide variety of formats and designs. One common design of an Advent calendar is in the form of a Christmas tree. This design has 24 candles attached to branches that make up the tree and are lit each day.
Another advent calendar design is a candy holder calendar. The candy holder calendar includes 24 pockets that are filled with candy. As each day arrives in the holiday season, someone, usually a child, takes the candy out of the holder and eats it.
An advent wreath is another device that is used to prepare for and track the Advent holiday season. An advent wreath has 4 candles, unlike the calendar, which uses 24 candles. This is because the advent wreath tracks and celebrates the weeks of advent as oppose to the days.
There are many ways that Advent is celebrated by the religious community. Special services are held where the congregants gather together for prayer, worship and to be edified and encouraged. The religious leader may specifically focus on a message of encouragement to remind the congregation of the coming Christmas holiday and why we celebrate the birth of Christ. The church may also sing special hymns and spiritual songs that celebrate and promote the birth of Christ as well.
Families celebrating Advent at home have a number of options available to them as well. One of the most common activities that a family can engage in together is to come together and either create or go shopping for an advent calendar that they can display and use together in the house. Families may also create certain advent themed games as well.
The Advent holiday season is a time of reflection, celebration and rededication for the millions of individuals that celebrate it worldwide. As you can see there are a number of different ways that you can choose to celebrate the holiday. You can use the suggestions and examples that we give in this article or you can use them as a starting point to come up with your own ideas. The choice is completely up to you.
Kerry Beck offers free advent calendars with daily Christmas activities to prepare you for Christmas. you will learn more about twelve days of Christmas with many of her activities.

The Vail Ski Condo(s) And My History Lesson
November 28, 2009 by Adriana Noton
My friend who lives in Denver, Colorado owns a Vail ski condo(s). I visited him during the ski off season. He was renting out his one of his condos and needed to go up and have the lease signed. We left on a Friday evening and spent the night in the condo. The next morning as he was waiting to meet with the tenants he loaned me his car and invited me to drive around the area.
I had fun driving around the mountain area. I pulled off the road when I saw a nice place to hike into the hill. I saw a large sign up ahead while I was driving and decided to pull up. There was also a stone monument. It was dedicated to the tenth mountain division of the U. S. Army which was formed in the year’40.
This was the area that the mountain division trained for battle in Europe. It was formed to fight in mountain areas like in Finland and Norway. But it ended up fighting the Germans in Italy in World War two. At the time of its formation the U. S. Had no fighting capability for mountain warfare. So they formed this division. Many men joined simply because it seemed like a glamorous idea.
Camp vale is in the Pando valley just on the Westside of the continental divide. The troops got to vale and were amazed. They did not know that type of mountain existed. The ones that had skied before were impressed with the finest skis and bindings they had ever seen.
It was a more hazardous than recreational skiing because they each carried a fifty pound pack. And the fine bindings were bear trap bindings that did not come off. If you did not know how to fall you could break a leg. It was very rugged training.
The troops lived in the mountains for weeks working in altitudes up to thirteen thousand five hundred feet. And some nights the temperature fell to twenty degrees below zero. You had to know what you were doing or you would be dead. The younger troops relied on the older men, the experienced mountain men. The older troops told the younger ones to rub their exposed extremities with bacon grease. This helped prevent frostbite.
The mountain division surprised the German army in’45 by reaching them in what the Germans thought was an inaccessible area of mountaintop in Italy. The Germans had the strategic advantage over the U. S. Infantry up to that point. The mountain division engaged their enemy and was able to defeat them allowing the infantry to move forward.
It was sobering to stand in the area where the mountain division trained. This division had one of the highest rate of casualties of any U. S. Division. Here brave soldiers practiced survival methods in the snowy mountaintops of world war two. I drove back to my friend’s ski condo with a lot more appreciation for the brave men of the tenth division.

Restaurant Franchise Helps to Make to Business Success
November 25, 2009 by Adriana Noton
It is no secret that the restaurant industry is a tough one to succeed in. However, when you look at the real numbers, it is because far too many people get into the industry thinking that all they have to do is open their doors, have a good time and the profits will roll in. Take it from someone who has been there, the benefits of restaurant franchise give a new owner a much better chance of success.
Name Recognition – one of the main reasons people will fail in this restaurant industry is because consumers are not always willing to take a risk on an unknown brand. If they have $5 in their pocket and want a burger, are they going to ABC Burgers? We all know the answer to this one.
Paid Advertising – part of each month’s franchise fees goes towards national advertising campaigns. While owners can still do their own thing locally, their brand is already benefiting from the national campaigns that the corporations are putting out. This goes a long way in keeping your label fresh in people’s heads.
Higher Success Rate – franchises are far more successful than the average Mom and Pop restaurant. While companies will occasionally lay an egg, they pour millions of dollars into market research every year that is a key factor in deciding where they are going to open up their new locations. This is more than the average restaurant owner has in their entire budget.
Education – why do most restaurants fail? Because the owners have no idea what they are doing. When opening up a franchise, it is usually mandatory that the new owner work for FREE in another store to learn the business. Companies actually have series of classes in place that culminate in a 2 week course at Burger University to make sure that the owner is as prepared as can be when they open their doors.
Financing – without a great business plan and a ton of research, the average person will not be able to get any significant financing from banks in the restaurant industry. Add a franchise to the equation and many options are now available. Banks are more familiar with the names and the overall company success will go a long way in influencing their final decision.
Quality Control – if a person is operating as an independent, it is up to them to monitor the quality of the products that they are getting and to land their own deals. A franchisee has the backing of their brand behind them and will more than likely already have suppliers lined up. Not only that, but the corporation will run inspections of the suppliers from time to time to ensure that they are keeping up expected standards.
While the restaurant industry is one that will generally make people’s eyes roll when the subject of investing is brought up, it is an unfair stereotype that is based on the lack of knowledge that many restaurant owners have. Running a restaurant is a lot of work and takes a true passion for the industry to be successful. Operating a franchise will give you the knowledge and support that can bring people one step closer to running a successful operation.
As Calgary restaurants offer some of the finest cuisine, Winnipeg restaurants also have outstanding desserts. If you’re thinking about eating a one-of-a-kind meal, don’t forget about visiting restaurant Quebec!

Thanksgiving – A History Of Bountiful Harvests And Friendship
November 24, 2009 by Angela Tyler
Through all of history, mankind has celebrated a bountiful harvest. Each year, harvest festivals have traditionally included food and friendship. Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Hebrews, Romans, and Chinese all have documentation that show they held festive celebrations when the crops came in.
The first Thanksgiving celebration in North America was held in 1621. Native Americans were pleased that the Pilgrims had followed the traditional ways of planting crops and hunting wild game, so they were happy to share the harvest celebration with the Pilgrims. Honoring Native American culture was the first step toward the Pilgrims’ survival during those first years. Being thankful for their blessings, the colonists gathered with the Native Americans and gave thanks.
Early harvest celebrations in North America are thought to be the first Thanksgiving. However, the term Thanksgiving was actually used then to refer to specific religious holidays observed by the church. Later Thanksgiving Day officially became an annual event in New York State. A National Day of Thanksgiving was declared by President Lincoln, and thereafter every year each president makes a similar proclamation.
President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed that Thanksgiving should be held each year on the third Thursday of November. Later, Congress passed a resolution that moved Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday of each November and that is when Thanksgiving is officially observed to this day.
The early harvest celebrations did not include foods that we recognize as staples at a Thanksgiving feast today. It is entirely possible that wild game was served, including migrating duck, geese, and wild turkey. However, turkey did not hold the sacred place it holds today. It is also believed that seafood was a major component of the harvest celebration due to the colonist’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
There would have been seasonal vegetables and root crops on the table. Squash, potatoes, onions, and late season corn would have been on the menu. Side dishes which we are familiar with today would not have been a part of the feast. Cranberry sauce or relish, and green bean casseroles would not have been served in the early festivals. Also, desserts such as pies and cakes were most likely not included due to the lack of sugar. More likely you would find some late season berries as a dessert offering. As a matter of fact, because salt, sugar, and other spices were a rare commodity, the dishes found at the early harvest festivals would have been quite simple.
The Thanksgiving meal we recognize today didn’t happen overnight. It evolved over several hundred years. When shipping food became easier, our food supplies became more varied and plentiful. Readily available canned and frozen foods made side dishes like Green Bean Casserole a new standard. Modern conveniences like food processors, microwaves, and blenders have all changed the harvest table over time. Something as simple as the modern oven, refrigerator, and freezer helped to develop our “new traditional” favorite dishes through the years. But, even our traditional favorites can take a hit. During the sugar rationing of World War II, our much loved pumpkin pie was off the table for a time. Seems our table will continue to evolve.
We have many reasons to be thankful on Thanksgiving Day – our friends and family, our easy access to food, and the modern conveniences that help us whip up that feast. Early Thanksgiving celebrations were held to rejoice in the gift of a bountiful harvest and the very survival of the colonists. Today, we gather to celebrate our own plentiful blessings and to express our thanks for another year with our loved ones. Happy Thanksgiving!
