Sunglasses are not simply a style statement, their primary function is to help guard your sensitive eyes from the damaging rays of the bright sunshine. Sunglasses are important in all situations. Sunglasses are available in a multitude of styles, prices and with a variety of enhancements for your individual situation. The most important aspect of selecting sunglasses is the UV factor.
Glare is another topic to discuss. When behind the wheel of an automobile, glare can be a real problem. Snow, buildings, and shiny surfaces can be the sources of glare. Glare can not only be a bit painful from time to time, it can make you squint, as you try to see through it. If you drive quite a bit, you may want to find sunglasses that have been specifically designed to diminish glare. The investment in glare reduction sunglasses is wise, as it will solve your problems with glare, whether it comes from other cars or directly from the sun.
The largest concern you will have is UV (ultraviolet) rays that emanate from the sun. When these rays are mirrored, they become more severe and if your eyes are unprotected for an extended time, photokeratitis can occur. This condition is not permanent, but is in effect a burning of the eyes. The rays are also a reason cataracts develop as well as AMD or age-related macular degeneration.
Try sunglasses on before you purchase them. Check them to see if they are comfortable, how they look, and if the UVA and UVB protection is 99-100% If you can’t find the information with the glasses, be sure to consult an eye care specialist for some assistance. If the lenses are larger, you will have better protection. You want to be sure that they are large enough to effectively block most of the light.
In addition, the lenses should be tinted so as to minimize glare, but not so dark that they prevent you from viewing essential objects when you drive. A simple method to test the level of tint on your glasses is to look at your reflection and determine if your eyes are still visible. If they are, you might consider a pair that is more tinted. Finally, remember your children! All of the above suggestions apply to kids as well, but you would be well served to purchase polycarbonate sunglasses since they will be less likely to break.
What better way to block the sun than with a pair of Coach S803 or Coach Peony S471 shades.
