How To Know That You’re Over Your Ex

You’re broken hearted. Sigh. I sympathize, I really do. You’ve just broken up with someone you really liked, maybe even loved, and you’re bummed. As events go, this rates about as high on the emotion meter as your dog dying and losing your fabulous job. There is light at the end of the tunnel and you will usually get there. It’s a bit of a journey, so take your friends, a bottle of vodka and a large cheesecake on the journey.
I say ‘usually’ because there are still those sad sacks out there who carry a torch forever. But you’re too smart and sexy and generally awesome for that, right? So if you suspect that your grieving process may be nearing an end, here is a list of hints that you just might be over the loser already:
1. You hardly ever think to check for his car when you drive past his work these days. And the only reason you drive past his work is because it’s on the most direct route to your parent’s house. No need to go the long way around after all!
2. You say “no” instead of “I just broke up with someone” when a cute stranger asks you if you’re involved with someone.
3. It was his dad’s birthday last Tuesday and you only just now remembered, and it’s Friday.
4. You have a new cell phone number and it didn’t even occur to you to give it to him.
5. You’re out on a date and talk turns to previous relationships. You gloss over the details and his name never even comes up.
6. “That scarf you bought at that place when you were with him” is now just “your favorite scarf”. No strings attached.
7. You don’t always “swear” you see him whenever you’re out.
8. When you were together you would automatically read his horoscope right after reading your own. Now yours is the only one of interest.
9. You don’t immediately (or at all) check his Facebook for pictures of him and new girls. Because you’ve “unfriended” him.
10. In the months after your break up you would compare new guys to your ex. Now you compare them to your own standards and no one else’s.
