Houston Water Damage Restoration: Remove everything out of your home that has been water damaged and place it outside to dry. Furniture will have to be thrown out because there is no way to get furniture one hundred percent dried. Most furniture is porous and can hold in a lot of moisture and grow mold.
Remove floor boards that have been damaged and remove drywall that has water damage. Before you replace the floorboards and drywall you will want to open all the windows and air out the room. A fan is a big help with airing out a room it speeds up the process and takes only about half the time that it would take to just open the windows and air out the room. Plus, if you have water damage in your bathroom and you don’t have windows in your bathroom you will want to use a fan.
To ensure the safety of people that dwell in the home make sure to shut off electricity at the first sign of water entering your home. If you don’t shut off the electricity and water gets to it then it can be damaged by the water. It can also electrocute anyone who has contact with the water when it touches a live wire. Also, make sure to shut off the gas, just to be safe.
Make sure you keep the faucets in your house turned off because you can have water damage, simply by leaving a faucet on. Sometimes you may have damage to your upstairs floor and your downstairs ceiling. These will have to be replaced too. It is possible to catch the water before it sinks into your wood and then you can simply dry it up or put a fan on it to dry the excess water.
You do not need to replace bricks but you will need to replace carpeting if it has been water damaged. You can take out the carpet and air dry it but as big of a piece as you will have to hang out to dry, you might as well get new carpets.
Sometimes it is expensive to buy new furniture. So, if you can not afford to buy new then you should try looking at a second hand store. You can always just wait and save up for the furniture that you can afford. Thrift stores are also a good place to look for furniture. A used furniture store is a wonderful place to look because their furniture is usually very cheap and great quality.
Lastly, Make sure your home is aired out completely before you put anything back in it. If its not completely dry the moisture (that you do not see) could cause mold to grow and everyone in the house hold can and probably will get sick. So make sure you inspect thoroughly for mold growth even if you think that you have dried everything out. And if you do see mold growing on your walls you should get a professional to come and look at your home because there may be more problems with moisture than you think.
