Ignore the Publicity Myths So You Can Get Free Publicity

March 12, 2010 by Danek S. Kaus

There is a lot of misunderstanding about the nature of free publicity and how to go about getting it. Here are seven myths that may keep you from getting the publicity you deserve.

Myth 1. Publicity and advertising are the same. You pay for advertising, but you don’t pay for publicity. Even if you hire a publicist, the cost is much less than advertising. Yet it has more value, because publicity is treated as news.

Myth 2. You have to know someone to get free publicity. Like anything else in life, it helps if you have contacts on the inside. But they are not necessary. Every day, thousands of people without contacts get free publicity in the media.

Myth 3. Only the big guys can get free publicity. Wrong. Refer to Myth 2.

Myth 4. It’s better to send your press release everywhere. Actually, you should send it only to the media outlets and journalists who cover the type of story idea you want to pitch. Otherwise, you’ll waste your time and theirs, which will make them less receptive to you in the future when you have the right kind of story for them.

Myth 5. You should send out lots of press releases. Wrong, don’t pester journalists with a press release about every little thing that happens at your business or organization. They find it annoying and time consuming. It’s like the boy who cried wolf. Send them too many trivial releases and they will stop paying attention. Wait until you have something reasonably important to share with the public. That’s the time to try to get free publicity.

Myth 6. Bigger is better. In this case, smaller is better. Journalists are bombarded with too many story pitches. They don’t have time to read them all so keep your press release short. Somewhere between 400 – 600 words is best. If you need to say more, send additional items such as a bio and/or fact sheet.

Myth 7. If you buy and ad, the media outlet will also give you free publicity. With the exception of smaller media outlets and trade publications, it will not help if you buy and ad. In fact, journalists will resent you if you try to coerce them into doing a story on you by telling them you are an advertiser.

Any business owner needs to be very frugal at this time. You need to advertise but you also have to be super careful with your money. If you are careful with how you invest your advertising budget you still can effectively get some attention for your business.

You can do a spot on the radio. Or there is always the choice of putting some commercials on local TV. Both of these will require the use of a production staff to get through the whole process. This could cost a whole bunch. And it will only get you a limited amount of air time. Your ad money will get invested one time on some things and it needs to be good. You can do things that will put you personally closer to the community and get the word out about your business out on the street.

Instead of going big budget and complicated, try to make things more simple. There are many small things that you can do instead. Some places will give away stuff after you spend a certain amount in their store. Some businesses will regularly send out coupons attached to flyers. These can be put on cars in nearby parking lots or hooked on door knobs in close neighborhoods.

If you check around your neighborhood you will probably find some spots that you can leave posters or flyers about your business. The local library usually has a spot for any one to put up fliers. Usually there are spots that you can plaster posters as well. There are different spots in every community that will work for sticking up business info.

There are really so many different choices of advertising that you can do on a grass roots level. The trick is to get as many people as possible to see your business name as many times as you can. You can do this by using promotional products for giveaways in the community. These can be given to customers as they shop in your store. The Truth Behind Loud Motorcycle Pipes !!!

December 25, 2009 by L.J. James

I have been reading and hearing allot lately about people who are saying that loud Motorcycle Pipes are a major problem in the world. These groups are trying to get those in Government to pass all sorts of new inspection laws for Motorcycle Pipes.

Seeing as Motorcycles make up such a small percentage of the Traffic on the road I would say this problem is very minimal at best. ( I wonder how many cars with bad mufflers are heard that many think are Motorcycles)

These people complain saying Motorcycle Riders like loud pipes because they are juvenile and want to show off and say Hey look at me and draw attention to themselves.

The reason many Bikers like loud pipes is not to say look at me, its to say look out for Me! Many Car drivers these days are talking on the phone, texting , putting on make up , eating , playing loud music , watching DVDs and just not paying attention to the road in front of them. If your in a car an you get hit ,You may get a dent in your car, We could Die! (Nothing enjoyable in life is completely safe)

These groups against loud pipes know gathering citizens together to complain is very easy , if they ask people while they are sitting around all summer long bored “Have you ever heard a Loud Motorcycle Go By?” they are going to say yes they Have!” These groups are then going to talk about how annoying these Motorcycles are and convince these bored people how much better their lives would be if these Motorcycles where gone! These bored people are going to jump right on board!

But now ask these same people when was the last time you heard a loud Motorcycle go by? They will probably hard pressed to find an answer! Was it Weeks ago? Months ago? was it Two years ago?

There are already laws on the books in every state that say a Motorcycles pipes can only be so loud! We do not need new laws on the books that most officers will do nothing about while others will abuse !

This Country spends too much time whining about things! Lets stop and think about Motorcycles. Motorcycles prevent traffic, They prevent wear and tear on the roads, They are great for saving Fuel. They are also a great relaxer, Those who Ride Motorcycles are a lot less stressed!

If people stopped complaining about Motorcycles and went and rode a Motorcycle they might not be so bored with their lives and they would have something better to do with their time!!!

Those who Ride enjoy Life a lot More, This is like therapy and religion all rolled up into one for us! Please do not bring the stress and problems of your dull boring lives into our world !

If you are that board and are looking for something to do with your life email me and I will help you find something better to do with your time. Maybe we can find something you can do that could actually help make the world a better place!!!

Cheaponsale.com Reports Passenger Vehicle Sales Peak In Oct

December 8, 2009 by Tian Li

China’s automobile market continued its robust growth in October, with passenger vehicle sales clocking a year-on-year growth of 79.6 percent, and provided enough indications that the country is well on its way to occupy the top perch in the global automobile market.

Sales of cars, sports-utility vehicles, minivans and multi-purpose vehicles touched 923,154 units last month, said Rao Da, secretary-general of China Passenger Car Association on Friday in Shanghai. During the first 10 months, passenger vehicle sales surged nearly 52.4 percent over the same period last year to 8.08 million units.

“The government’s favorable tax policy and the eight-day National Day holidays spurred sales in October. The robust trend was also aided as vehicle manufacturers produced more popular models during the period and reduced the delivery time,” said Rao. “We are optimistic that the November figures would surpass that of October as sales normally peak toward the end of the year,” he said.

China’s automobile industry has been growing robustly since the end of last year and is now the most dynamic and promising market in the world. “More importantly, by the end of November, total vehicles sales in China will surpass the 12-million-unit target, set by the government under its automobile industry restructuring plan of last year, some 25 months in advance,” said Rao. ” We expect full-year automobile sales to touch 13.5 million with a year-on-year growth rate of 44 percent. That in turn, would make China the world’s largest automobile market for the whole year.”

Rao said if the government can continue its stimulus package for the automobile industry, the growth rate for the 2010 could reach 25 percent.

On Thursday, Zhu Hongren, spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said the government is considering extending the favorable tax policies and the subsidy for automobile purchases in rural regions to next year also. The policies were scheduled to end this year.

On Oct 28, the China Economic Monitoring Center and Sinotrust jointly released the 2009 Third Quarter China Automotive Industry Climate Index and pegged the indicator at 99.6 points in the third quarter of this year (2001=100), up 2.7 points over the second quarter, indicating that the automobile market has started to recover from the downturn.
