Whenever a Hollywood movie is produced the aim is to make a film that the public loves and that will become a smash hit. Take a fantastic story, throw in a couple of distinguished actors along with some special effects and voila’, a huge box office success. But it doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes a film will contain everything that you think might make it a success and it still fails at the box office. There is no such thing as a sure thing in Hollywood.
Bug – film rendition of Tracy Letts’ play is tough to take critically however not without a twist or two if you could recognize it as a stunt. This is simply bug versus man. Cast includes Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon, Harry Connick, Jr., Lynn Collins, and Brian F. O’Byrne. (101 minutes, 2007)

The Last Time I Saw Archie – Webb’s lone try at comedy is less foolish than some of his more serious films; a shame, since William Bowers’ script-based on his own Army experiences had genuine potential, and Mitchum nicely underplays as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes,’61)
My Son the Hero – Larger-than-life flick in regards to sinister Emperor Cadmus of Thebes, who challenges the lords and faces the fury of the Titans. Cast includes Pedro Armendariz, Jacqueline Sassard, Antonella Lualdi, and Giuliano Gemma. (122 minutes,’62)
Slaughter’s Big Ripoff – A killer is still playing games with the Mafia in this dull action film. McMahon gives more effort to his role as the mob boss than it is worth. Cast includes Jim Brown, Ed McMahon, Brock Peters, Don Stroud, Gloria Hendry, Dick Anthony Williams, and Art Metrano. (93 minutes,’73)
