Even by not marking off days in the month, I know when Christmas is here. It officially starts when carols are being sung, people are nicer and bargain sales are being given. Granted, it’s more commercialized now than before; but that shouldn’t stop anyone from enjoying all the love and festivities this season brings now should it? It’s time to be merry, and where better to get started than in your home.

A surefire way to brighten up your home is by putting up a beautiful christmas tree in a place it will be best showcased. It is a tradition well loved and practiced by most families still. No matter how many Christmases pass though, one can also do with tips and pointers on how to put lights on a christmas tree. Read on and find out a simple way on how to go about this without stress.

First item of the agenda: buy a tree. If you happen to have a perfectly acceptable synthetic tree packed somewhere in the house, go right ahead and use that one. However, if you want the warmth and intimacy of a live fir; pack up the whole family and visit the local christmas tree store to get ‘the One’ that you and the rest of the brood will enjoy.

Clear a space for the tree. Usually, families opt for the living room where visitors are received often as the spot to set the tree in. When you put up the christmas tree, place it near enough a wall, but with enough room around the tree that you can walk around it as you hang up decorations.

What theme are you going for this year? Determine this as soon as possible so you can pick out appropriate lights. Christmas lights are now being sold in various colors, shapes, sizes and patterns-choose one that will best complement your tree’s motif.

If you have lights from holidays past you want to use, take them out of storage and inspect them first before hanging them up. Busted bulbs you can replace but exposed light you must never use. Measure your tree; you should have 100 bulbs for every foot of tree you decorate.

Run the extension cord along the middle of the tree, securing it discretely as you hang up the lights. Wrap the strands of twinkling lights around the trunk and each of the limbs per level until you reach the crown. Drape them in a pretty fashion, remembering to leave space for the other ornaments you will embellish it with later.

Now the moment of truth-plug in the cord in the outlet. How does it look? Close the room lights and take a step back to assess your handy work. Is it all nice and twinkly? Is it evenly distributed all throughout the tree? Clip off unsightly needles and tuck in whatever needs to be kept hidden until you are satisfied. You now know the safe way on how to put lights on a christmas tree-enjoy it and let the good times roll! Happy holidays!
