There are an abundance of opportunities on the Internet for work at home moms to make extra money. Unfortunately, there is also an abundance of shady opportunities on the Internet. The biggest tip for work at home moms to help them avoid these bad apples is to remember that no legitimate employer will ask you to pay anything in return for a job. With that said, here are five ways for work at home moms to earn a tidy income from the comfort of their own homes.
1. Freelance writing. Nearly every Internet site needs content and that content needs to be written by someone – why not you? Whether you’re a specialist in one topic, or can write about everything, you’ll be sure to find someone in need of your services. It’s easy enough to find clients; you can either join some Internet marketing forums or sign up on a couple of freelancing websites.
2. Website / graphic design. If you have an artistic flair, then you should consider entering the website designing business. All you need is Adobe Photoshop and some creative inspiration and you’re good to go. Whether it be logos, banners, eBook covers, icons, blogging themes or entire websites, this type of service is always in demand. If you show some creative talent and can build up a nice portfolio, you can build a long term business out of it – one that pays extremely well too.
3. Virtual assisting. Being a virtual assistant is kind of like being a secretary, except that you can work from your own home. You may be answering calls that have been directed through to you, responding to emails, updating websites or databases, or anything of that sort. Becoming a virtual assistant will require you to have good interpersonal skills as well as proficiency with, or an ability to learn, how to use software such as Microsoft Word.
4. Dropshipping through eBay. In addition to selling your unwanted items on eBay for extra cash, you can also start a dropshipping business on eBay. This is basically where you find a supplier for a product, you list the product on eBay and, when it is sold, you forward the order to the supplier, you pay the supplier their cut out of the sale proceeds and keep the rest. The great thing about this model is that you do not need to worry about fulfillment or keeping inventory.
5. Blogging. This is more of a long term business model, but blogging does not take a lot of effort per day, so you could easily start a blog while pursuing other ventures. Create your own WordPress blog on your own domain and create a theme for your blog. If you post regularly, and keep your content consistent to your theme, your readership will steadily grow, your blog will gain visibility within your niche, and you’ll start to earn money from ads as well as other revenue sources.

I don’t like the recommendation of becoming a freelance writer. It seems like everyone suggests that, even when the fact of the matter is that most people can’t write effectively. Isn’t there enough junk on the ‘Net already? I also wonder why the focus isn’t on affiliate marketing and media placement, two areas that really tend to pay off.
